Firefighters extinguish flames at Killeen paint shop

Firefighters in Killeen were able to extinguish an unstable fire early Friday morning. Authorities received a call at 2:30 a.m. about a fire at the Tasco Auto Color in the 800 block of Highland Avenue.

Fire crews were able to contain and put out the fire as flames shot out of the building. Police on the scene say they heard small explosions inside the shop.

There was automotive paint and related products at the business. The water used to put out the flames washed paint products into a concrete drainage culvert in Marlboro Park. The paint is contained to Marlboro Park.

Marlboro Park is temporarily closed while crews clean up the paint.

The public is asked to avoid the area because there is residual fumes coming from the business and the drainage culvert. Authorities are advising anyone in the are who is experiencing dizziness, nausea, respiratory distress or other symptoms to leave the area or get medical attention

Authorities have not said what caused the fire and how badly the building was damaged.
