Hundreds of athletes compete in Triwaco race

Nearly 800 athletes from across the country gathered in Central Texas for the 5th annual Triwaco triathlon.

22 year-old Baylor track star Brad Miles won the event and set a new course record time. The triathlon consisted of a swim, bike ride and run around downtown Waco.

Director of Sports and Special Events, Ashley Futris says it's a great course for all the athletes.

"We have athletes form all ranges," said Futris. "We have a lot of first timers for this event and then like I said we'll have a lot people that are training for or trying to qualify for a national championship. So it's months and months of training. Some of these guys are doing it every week, every month."

Crowds of spectators lined the bridge and routes to cheer on their athletes.

Event coordinators will begin planning for next years race in august.
