Waco ISD Approves a Reconstitution Plan for Waco High

Posted:
WACO -

Waco ISD Board of Trustees passed a new reconstitutional plan to get Waco High School back on track.

The state rated Waco ISD's largest campus as academically unacceptable in 2010. Now, this is the third year the school has been put on this restriction. A reconstitution plan was put in place last year, but the school claims it failed and did not go according to the plan because of employee transitions.

This time, Waco High will have program services provided to them, including a position from the Texas Education Agency called a Professional Service Provider(PSP). The position will be responsible for watching over the campus. The high school principal will make some staffing decisions as the campus will aim to hire high quality math and science teachers.

Executive Director of Curriculum Chris Everett is confident it will work.

"Part of our interaction with the PSP this time, is looking over the old plan. Let's revise it based on new data," said Everett. "There wasn't a lot of changes, but let's really put in process and say what we are going to do and get it done, and that's our focus and my work with PSP."

Student performance and attendance are the reasons for the changes. School leaders say this reconstitution plan isn't as serious as some.

"Ours is not that extensive. It's more of a plan that helps us formalize process and ensure that district leadership is there in a way that we need to support," Everett said. "And that there's a way for us to monitor all these things that are going on."

The campus will still utilize the C-SCOPE structure and develop a system to ensure lessons are based on TEKS and at a strictly applied level of STAAR.

The school board did make an additional requirement for Waco High to report to them and the community once a month. This is to make sure everything is going accordingly to plan.
