Local man arrested for assaulting woman while she held a child

COPPERAS COVE, TX (KXXV) -

A 44-year-old Copperas Cove man was arrested Wednesday after police say he forced his way into a home and assaulted a woman while she had a small child in her arms.

Tyrone Antonio Ballard is being charged with burglary of habitation with intent to commit assault and abandoning or endangering a child-criminal negligence. Bond has been set at $50,000.

The incident happened July 18 at a home in the 100 block of Nelson Drive in Copperas Cove. The victim said Ballard came to her house after she didn't answer his calls.

Ballard then forced the front door open and pushed the victim over a table. The victim fled upstairs to where her 1-year-old and 3-year-old daughters were.

Ballard is accused of pushing the victim down on a bed as she held her 1-year-old and hitting the victim in the face. Ballard is also accused of flipping a knife open and saying he was going to stab and kill the victim. He then fled the house after doing this.

Police obtained a warrant for Ballard and arrested him Wednesday. He was then transported to the Coryell County Jail.
