Chandler's Gun Shop and Shooting Range Closer to Reopen

Posted:
VALLEY MILLS -

The owner of a gun range who has been fighting to keep her business open for months may win that battle, but she has to pass one last inspection.

Chandler's Gun Shop and Shooting Ranges in Valley Mills had to temporarily shut down per the judges orders in March.

Alice Williams' neighbor, George Walker, Jr., who doesn't live full-time at the property, filed a lawsuit against the business citing it was unsafe. A jury agreed and the judge ordered Williams to close and make changes.

Inspection time came for Williams in June, and instead of a third party, Walker was allowed to inspect and sign off on the changes. He disagreed with those changes and Williams had to appear before the judge again.

In a hearing on Wednesday at the Bosque County Court House, Williams and Walker went before the judge to see if she could reopen.

After looking over the first round of inspections, the judge ordered the range to remain closed and Williams has to change a few more things.

Just like the inspection in June, these few modifications have to be looked over by the neighbor, again. If he disagrees, they both will have to appear before the judge. Also, Williams engineer has to file the proper paper work and sign off on them.

After spending thousands of dollars to make the range safer, Williams is confident this will be the final inspection.

A grand re-opening will be held on October 5th. Also, on August 7th a supporting event for Williams and her business will be held at Wise Guys in Waco starting at 7pm.
