Foreclosure Numbers Improving in Central Texas

The latest foreclosure rates from Corelogic show a slight improvement in May compared to a year before but a slight increase month-to-month in the Killeen-Temple-Ft. Hood market.

The rate of foreclosures among outstanding mortgage loans was 1.17 percent in May of 2013 in that Bell County market, compared to 1.36 percent in May of 2012.  But that number is a slight increase from the 1.11 percent in April of 2013.

The delinquency rate also decreased May to May.  In 2013, 4.25 percent of mortgage loans were 90 days or more late, compared to 4.39 percent in the same period last year.

The foreclosure numbers were a little bit better in the Waco area.  In May of 2013, 1.05 percent of outstanding mortgage loans were in foreclosure, compared to 1.38 percent the year before.

That's within .01 of the lowest foreclosure rate in Waco in two and a half years.

The delinquency rate also dropped from 3.82 percent in May of 2012 to 3.13 percent in Waco.

Statewide, Midland had the lowest foreclosure rate at 0.34 and Bryan/College Station was next best at 0.50.

The national foreclosure rate for May of 2013 was 2.61 percent.
