Killeen officer injured in shooting is released from hospital

KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) -

The Killeen officer that suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, has been released from the hospital.

Officer Juan Obregon was released from Scott & White Memorial Hospital Tuesday and is doing well. He will continue to be off work for an extended period of time to recover.

Obregon was shot in the fatal July 14th shooting that killed Officer Robert Hornsby. Officer Hornsby was laid to rest July 18.

The Killeen Tactical Response Unit responded to a 911 call at the Grandon Manor Apartments late Saturday night that turned into a shootout when a man armed himself with an AK-47 and began firing at the officers out of his apartment.

The shooter was identified as Fort Hood soldier Dustin Cole. 24-year-old Cole was killed in the shootout.
