KILLEEN -

Police have arrested a 48-year-old Killeen woman suspected of starting a fire at the Modern Inn in the 1000 block of Root Ave. in Killeen.

Catherine Emma Mitchem was charged with arson for the July 20th hotel fire and she is currently waiting transport to the Bell County Jail

The Fire Marshall's office say they got a call at 7:16 p.m. on Saturday about smoke billowing out of a room on the top floor of the hotel.

When they arrived, they sent firefighters up to the room and evacuated the one man who was there.

The room was heavily damaged by the flame and two adjacent rooms suffered smoke damage.

The case was reviewed July 24 by the Bell County District Attorney's Office and a warrant was obtained charging Mitchem with arson.

A Crime Stoppers tip came into police about Mitchem's whereabouts and officers were sent to the 3200 block of Cantabrian Drive. Mitchem was arrested there without incident.
