Police looking for person of interest in Killeen homicide case

Killeen Police are asking for the public's assistance to find a man that may have information regarding the death of Maurice Carter.

Detectives are looking for 27-year-old Michael Shane Laurenti because they believe he may have information that could help them in the death of Maurice Carter.

Killeen Police are investigating Maurice Carter's death as a homicide after finding his body in an apartment.

Officers received a 911 call Thursday, July 18th in reference to a dead person at 308 N. 22nd Street in Killeen.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they spoke to the person who called 911. That person said they found the resident dead inside the apartment and that it appeared he had been shot.

During a preliminary investigation, investigators discovered that a resident at the complex heard shots fired Wednesday night and called the Killeen Police Department. Officers responded to the area but were not able to find anything.

Around 9:30 Thursday morning a female tried to make contact with the male resident but there was no answer at the door.

Another friend came to the apartment and was told by a resident that shots were fired the night before. The man started banging on the apartment door but did not get a response.

Then, he pushed open the door and found the man dead against the door. Maurice Devon Carter was pronounced dead at 10:54 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke. Carter's body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about Mr. Laurenti's whereabouts or knows how to contact him to contact the Killeen Police Department at 254-501-8830, Detective Kaiser at 254-501-8936 or Detective K. Tramp at 254-501-8866.
