Sentencing Begins In Albert Love Capital Murder Trial

The prosecution in the Albert Love capital murder trial presented its case to the jury during the sentencing phase of the trial one day after that jury found Love guilty of capital murder in the 2011 shooting deaths of Tyus Sneed and Keenan Hubert.

Prosecutors tried their best to expose Love's criminal history, which included drugs, gangs and other shootings.

Prosecutor Michael Jarrett showed the jury photos of numerous tattoos found on love's body that link him to one of the largest street gangs in the country also known as the Bloods.

The prosecution called McLennan County gang investigator William Sustaita to testify as an expert on gang symbols and gang-related tattoos in the effort to show the jury what kind of life Love led before he was arrested for the 2011 shootings of Sneed and Hubert.

Defense attorney Jon Evans objected to Sustaita's testimony, but judge Ralph Strother ruled that Sustaita would be allowed to testify as a gang expert.

Sustaita then went on to explain what each of Love's tattoos symbolized including one specifically located on Love's abdomen depicting a revolver pointing outward.

Sustaita said in gang circles this generally means that the member had at some point shot someone during their time with the gang.

Jurors also heard testimony from multiple Waco police officers regarding traffic stops back in 2007 and 2008 where Love was charged with illegally carrying an assault rifle and evading police in a vehicle after officers had found prescription pain killers in Love's car that did not belong to him along with marijuana residue.

None of Love's family members have attended the trial likely because some of them may be under subpoena as potential witnesses in the case, and they are therefore not allowed to be in the court room.

Judge Strother told the jury that after the defense presents its case tomorrow, deliberations on sentencing are expected to begin no later than Friday afternoon where Love could ultimately face the death penalty.
