Ft. Hood soldier identified as shooter of Killeen officers


A Fort Hood soldier has been identified as the man who killed one Killeen police officer and wounded another on Saturday.

24 year old Dustin Cole was identified as the deceased suspect in the July 13 shootout that killed a Killeen officer and wounded another.

Robert (Bobby) Hornsby was killed in the shootout and Juan E. Obregon Jr. was wounded.

According to Killeen PD, they received a 911 call at 11:40 p.m. on July 13, about a man causing a disturbance in the pool area of the Grandon Manor Apartments located in the 1600 block of Grandon Dr.

The caller told police that a white male had threatened residents at the pool area with a gun before walking back into his apartment. Officers arrived to find Dustin Cole inside his apartment holding a long rifle in a threatening way.

The Tactical Response Unit arrived and tried to talk to Cole. He then fired one shot. Cole then came to the door with his hands up, but did not come outside.

Cole backed into his apartment and pick up an AK47 after police tried to take him into custody. He then started shooting at the officers with the AK47.

Officers returned fire and killed Dustin Cole. This case is still being investigated.
