Two overnight fires in Waco being investigated as arson

An arson investigation is underway after two fires broke out in Waco within 30 minutes of each other at around 12:30 a.m. early Thursday morning.

The fire department first responded to a vacant apartment duplex fire on 15th and Trice Ave. Flames were shooting from the roof of the building.

About 30 minutes later, fire crews were called out to another fire at a vacant home in the 1600 block of North 5th Street. Fire officials say that the house was the same one that went up in flames two months ago and displaced a family.

Both the duplex and home were destroyed by the fires.

There are no reports of anyone being injured due to the fires, but 13th Street was evacuated from Tennessee to Trice Ave. from about 1 a.m. until the fire was contained.

Authorities are still investigating these fires and working to find out if they are connected.
