San Antonio Woman Murdered in Waco Still Remains Unsolved

Posted:
WACO -

A San Antonio woman who was killed in Waco two years ago still remains unsolved.

To this day, there hasn't been any new leads. Maria Victoria Serna, 29, was last seen on July 4, 2011 by her family. Her mother, Rosemary Hernandez remembers that day.

"She called me up and told me that she was going out of town," said Hernandez. "I asked her where she was going, and she just told me she was going out of town and she will be back tonight."

Hernandez felt something wasn't right and tried to stop her daughter from going with her boyfriend of two years.

"Something in my heart tells me don't trust him," Hernandez said.

Hernandez strongly believes Serna's boyfriend at the time was involved with gangs and drugs.

"I think she knew too much and wanted out of the relationship," Hernandez said. "He couldn't let her go knowing everything she knew, and so I think that's why he went over there to get her and quiet her down."

A few days went by and Hernandez received a phone call from Waco police. They told her Serna was found in Bosque Park dead with a blown injury to her head. After the autopsy, Serna's death was ruled as murder with a gunshot wound to her head.

She left a loving family and two children behind. Carlitos Serna, 12, remembers all the good times him and his mother had.

"She was grateful, a loving mom and she just made everybody feel good about themselves," Carlitos said.

The family lives in anguish and wants answers.

"Now we have to go through this year after year until they do something about it, and I just don't want the police from Waco to give up," Hernandez said.

Serna's family will continue to seek those answers, for themselves and especially for Serna's children.

"It's not over for us and it will never be because we don't have peace," said Hernandez. "We need justice."
