Marlin Fire Displaces Eight Residents

Residents of a retirement complex in Marlin are safe after their home was engulfed in flames this afternoon.

It caused eight residents to be displaced. Everyone made it out safe. All the elderly residents who lived at Retirement Acres complex have taken in by family members or were sent to the Civic Center where the Red Cross was waiting to help.

Firefighters rushed to the scene just after 5:00pm on Friday. The surrounding neighborhood was evacuated and neighbors said the fire quickly spread through those units.

Several area fire departments were called in to help, as well as DPS Troopers. Many family members throughout the area heard what happened, and rushed over to check on their loved ones. The units across the street that were part of the same complex, also had to be evacuated for the night because power was turned off.

The fire department remained on the scene hours after the fire was out, looking for hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
