Killeen High School Graduate Memorialized on Fort Hood

A Killeen High School graduate killed in last Tuesday's rocket attack in Afghanistan has been brought home and honored with a memorial service on Fort Hood.

Army Specialist Ember Marie Alt, 21, was one of four soldiers killed on June 18 when Taliban militants fired two mortars into the Bagram Air Force Base.

Alt died alongside 21-year-old Spec. Robert Ellis, of Kennewick, Wash., 30-year-old Spc. William Moody of Burleson, Texas, and 25-year-old Sgt. Justin Johnson, of Hobe Sound, Fla.

Alt graduated from Killeen High School in 2009 where she excelled as a track star who helped her team make it all the way to the state track meet during her Senior year.

She joined the Army in 2011 and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado.

Alt was deployed last November on her first overseas assignment where she earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge while serving her country.

Alt will receive full military honors during a funeral service tomorrow that will be held at the Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with a burial service to follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

June 28, 2013 would have been Alt's 22nd birthday.
