Two Bell County men arrested for stealing 3,300 lbs. of aluminum

Two Bell County Men are in the McLennan County Jail and charged with theft of precious metal after a scrap metal company employee got suspicious about the metal they were trying to sell.

53-year-old Billy Wayland Simons of Harker Heights and 41-year-old Raymond Clemente Robinson were trying to sell 1,400 lbs. of aluminum to Quality Recycling.

McLennan County deputies were called out Thursday afternoon after an employee got suspicious about the amount of metal they had.

A Killeen PD investigation was underway into the theft of the material. Police say the metal was taken in a June 24th break in at Bell Glass in the 5000 block of East Veteran's Memorial Blvd.

Investigators say that 3,300 lbs. of aluminum was taken in total, along with a trailer and a 4-wheeler. The other 1,900 lbs. of aluminum, the trailer and the 4-wheeler have not been recovered.

The Sheriff's Office investigators say the metal recycling businesses in the county have been very cooperative in catching metal thieves and tracing stolen metal.
