Baylor's Pierre Jackson Drafted by Philadelphia 76ers

Reported trade to New Orleans Pelicans can't be made official until July 11

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Pierre Jackson was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the No. 42 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft on Thursday night at the Barclays Center. Numerous reports say Jackson will be traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, but the trade can't be made official until July 11.

Jackson's selection gives Baylor four NBA draft picks in the last two years, which ties the Bears with Kansas for the most in the Big 12 Conference during that stretch. He's the first player in program history to be drafted by the Sixers, though the same franchise previously selected Jerry Mallett in the 1957 draft when the team was named the Syracuse Nationals.

Four Big 12 players were selected during the draft, marking the 10th consecutive year at least four league players heard their names called. Kansas' Ben McLemore went at No. 7 to the Sacramento Kings, followed by KU's Jeff Withey at No. 41 to the Portland Trail Blazers, Jackson at No. 42 to Philadelphia and Oklahoma's Romero Osby at No. 51 to the Orlando Magic.

Jackson became the first player in Big 12 history to lead the league in scoring and assists when he averaged 19.8 points and 7.1 assists per game while leading the Bears to a 23-14 record in 2012-13. He was named the NIT's Most Outstanding Player after leading Baylor to its first-ever national tournament championship by averaging 19.6 points and 11.0 assists per game during the Bears' five-game run to the title.

A Las Vegas, Nev., native, Jackson broke Baylor records for single-season points (712) and consecutive games with at least one made 3-pointer (48). His 255 assists as a senior ranked as the second-best single-season total in program history, and he became the first Baylor player to win USBWA District Player of the Year.

Jackson averaged 16.7 points, 6.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 74 career games played. He concluded his Baylor career as one of only five players in program history to reach 1,000 points in two seasons. Jackson's 1,235 career points ranked 14th on Baylor's career scoring list, and his 478 career assists were third-most in Baylor history. He guided the Bears to a 53-22 record over two seasons, including the 2012 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and the 2013 NIT Championship.

The Big 12 has now had 91 all-time draft picks, including 44 selections in the last six years, and conference teams have produced 19 top-10 selections in the league's 17-year history.
