Ft. Hood's 2,900 Brigade Cuts Won't Severely Impact Community

Ten Army posts domestically and two over seas will experience cut backs.

The U.S. Army will cut 80,000 positions. Ft. Hood is on the list eliminating 2,900 positions. All the positions being eliminated are part of the Budget Control Act, but not sequestration.

Ft. Hood Senior Commander, Major General Anthony Ierardi spoke about the cuts at Ft. Hoods Association of the United States Army general meeting Wednesday night. Major General Ierardi downplayed the cuts saying they will not dramatically impact Ft. Hood.

"There will be some reorganization of our key units of our Brigade teams, and a modest reduction size of our units here," said Ierardi. "Ft. Hood will continue to be able to perform its mission to train our units for combat."

Major General Ierardi assured nothing would economically change in the surrounding community from these cuts. Ft. Hood's cuts are only seven percent of the post.

"Those who are apart of the units that are inactivating will be assigned according to the army's requirement at Ft. Hood or other places in the army," said Ierardi.

There is no time line set for the cut, but they anticipate it to come within the next year. By 2017 all 80,000 positions in the army will be trimmed.
