Better Business Bureau warns public of unlicensed movers

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

The Better Business Bureau is warning people in Waco about unlicensed movers operating in Waco.

At least one Waco-area moving company did not have a license in the Texas Department of Motor Vehicle's Truck Stop, which is a searchable database of licensed moving companies.

Guerrero Bro's Co. does not have a license, which means it is operating illegally and it may not have insurance. BBB contacted Guerrero Bro's Co. about their license, but got no response. They were also unable to determine if Guerrero Bro's Co. is still in business.

A moving company must register with Texas DMV if they are transporting goods for hire and if they are operating without a license, the company can include fines and up to a year in jail based on the number of violations.

BBB is warning movers to do some research before hiring a moving company because people have been cheated out of money.

To check the reliability of a moving business, you can check BBB.org and the Texas DMV Truck Stop at http://apps.dot.state.tx.us/apps/mccs/mccs_frame_search_collector.htm
