Local woman arrested for assaulting elderly relatives

Posted:
WACO -

A Waco woman is now behind bars after going on a violent rampage and injuring multiple members of her family.

Twenty-eight year-old Vanessa Leann Wilkerson was arrested yesterday at her home and taken into custody without incident.

Wilkerson is accused of beating her great grandmother, great aunt and her disabled great uncle all because they wouldn't giver her money to buy alcohol.

The arrest affidavits say Wilkerson went over to her great aunts house on the 2700 block of McKenzie Avenue Sunday and furiously demanded money.

When her family refused to give her the money she became enraged and that's when the fighting started.

Police records say she started began hitting her uncle with her fists and a trash grabber tool on his back injuring the 65 year-old man. Her great aunt tried to help but Wilkerson started punching her too.

During the fight, her great grandmother tried to call police and that's when she turned on the 88 year old elderly woman, knocking her to the ground and breaking her arm. The great grandmother was taken to a local hospital and placed in the ICU because she had low blood pressure.

Waco police say it's sad anytime family violence occurs.

"The unfortunate side to this is that it does happen all too often. Maybe a past history of alcohol abuse may have played into this one. The unfortunate side of family violence is that it's loved ones hurting the people they love and that's the exact case here," says Waco Police Spokesman Sgt. Patrick Swanton.

All the injured relatives are expected to recover from their injuries.

Wilkerson now faces multiple charges including two felony charges, one for injury to a disabled person, a second for injury to an elderly person and a lesser misdemeanor family violence charge.
