Bell County bomb threat linked to Maj. Nidal Hasan's court case

The Bell County Justice Center in Belton was evacuated Wednesday after a man called in and threatened to blow up a Belton courthouse.

"If Hasan doesn't get what he asks for, a bomb will go off in the courts in Belton," said Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange.

Both courthouses in Belton were evacuated and directed to the Bell County Expo Center while deputies and K-9 dogs searched the scene. The Bell County Jail was also placed on lock down.

Belton police have asked for help from the Bell County sheriff's office, Joint Terrorism Task Force, and Fort Hood. They have not found anything suspicious, but the call remains under investigation.

The Belton police received a call at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday morning and made the bomb threat. The man did not specify which courthouse he would blow up, but mentioned Hasan.

The Bell County Justice Center and Jail was re-opened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Maj. Nidal Hasan is currently awaiting court-martial in the Bell County jail for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that left 13 dead. He will be tried in the heavily-secured Lawrence J. Williams Judicial Center on Fort Hood.
