Gatesville man gets 18 years for assaulting mom


A 34-year-old Gatesville man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for assaulting his mother back in 2012. The incident happened December 18, 2012 on Barton Lane in Gatesville.

Douglas J. Brumley was found guilty for an incident where he shoved his 60-year-old mom, and injured her arm. Brumley's mom says the two had been drinking and an argument started. Brumley grabbed her and then shoved here, which caused here to fall and injure her arm.

Brumley was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury - family violence - enhanced, which is a 3rd degree felony.

The trial began Monday and after jury took 20 minutes to deliberate on Tuesday, they found Brumley guilty.

Brumley entered a plea of true to an additional enhancement for a previous murder conviction during the sentencing phase, which increased the range of punishment to a second degree felony.
