The House is pushing for a larger pay increase for the military

KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) -

The House and Senate are at odds about the size of the 2014 military pay raise.

Last week the House Armed Services Committee approved a 1.8 percent pay raise for the military. The 1.8 percent raise matches the average private-sector pay increase last year. However, the Senate is endorsing the Obama administration proposal that would cap the pay increase at 1 percent.

The Defense Department and the Senate believe once allowances and benefits are factored in, military pay already exceeds civilian pay.

Now that the House has approved the defense bill, with a larger pay increase, it will go to the Senate. The Senate will have the bill by the end of the week.
