Local man arrested for stealing his dog from Waco shelter

Posted:
WACO -

A 27-year-old Bellmead man was arrested last week after police say he used his two daughters to keep the employees busy while he stole his dog back from Waco animal shelter on March 22.

Shelter personnel tell police that Michael Wade Fredrich came to the shelter on March 22 to get his Terrier-Pit Bull mix back after it was picked up by Bellmead Animal Control officers for being at large. Fredrich would only be able to get his dog back after he paid the $150 fine he owed.

Instead of paying the fines, Fredrich used two of his daughters to distract shelter employees. While the employee were busy with the kids, Fredrich went into a restricted building, kicked down a fence and stole his dog before fleeing the scene without paying the fines he owned.

Fredrich was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and theft of $50.
