Police search for driver involved in morning hit and run with school bus

Posted:
WACO -

Waco I.S.D. police are looking for the driver of a Jeep involved in a Tuesday morning hit and run accident with a school bus. The accident happened at around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Herring Ave. and 28th St.

The school bus was carrying six Indian Spring Middle School students to Carver Middle School for summer classes. That's when a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the driver's side of the bus and drove away.

No one was injured, and the school bus received minor damage from the accident. Waco I.S.D. says the bus involved in the accident was still drivable, but a second bus was sent to the scene to take the students to school on time.

Investigators say that the Jeep may have suffered significant damage after they found a piece of fiberglass side paneling underneath the school bus, along with other smaller parts of the vehicle left behind.

Although the school year is over, Waco I.S.D. spokesman Dale Caffey says drivers need to still abide by the rules of the road during summer school hours.

"There are school buses on the road in the morning and in the afternoon in Waco. So drivers need to know just because it's summertime doesn't mean school has ended because we do have summer school going on," Caffey said.

The Waco I.S.D. Police Department is investigating the incident and is asking for anyone with information call to (254) 752-0858.
