Texas Farm Bureau wins court case for Brazos River water rights

Posted:
AUSTIN -

The Texas Farm Bureau won their court case Thursday to hold onto their water rights along the Brazos River.

Texas' water doctrine says that senior rights to water along the Brazos River belong to farmers. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality bypassed that and put junior rights holders, cites and power generators, in front of farmers for property rights of the water.

The TFB sued TCEQ and 53rd Civil District Court Judge Scott H. Jenkins ruled in favor of the Texas Farm Bureau in Austin. TCEQ has 30 days to appeal the ruling.
