Hasan says he was protecting Taliban soldiers in 2009 Fort Hood Shooting

FORT HOOD -

Judge Col. Tara Osborn says she will not decide whether to delay the trial until Maj. Nidal Hasan provides enough evidence to support his new defense of "defense of others."

Earlier today, Hasan said he gunned down soldiers who were preparing to deploy to Afghanistan to protect the Afghan soldiers. He believes death or bodily harm was about to be inflicted to the leadership of Islamic Emerite of Afghanistan, specifically the Taliban.

Hasan also mentioned he was defending Mullah Omar, current spiritual leader of the Taliban. Mullah Mohammed Omar was the Head of Supreme Council of Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, and sheltered Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda militants prior to the September 11 attacks. The United States has been searching for Mullah Omar since then.

In order to prove "defense of others," the defendant must prove they harmed others to protect a third party from immediate danger.
