Rabid skunk found in Copperas Cove


Copperas Cove Animal Control officials say a skunk that was found last week tested positive for rabies on Monday. Officials say they were notified about the skunk displaying unusual behavior on May 29TH in the 200 block of N. 5th St.

Animal Control officers were able to find the skunk in the 100 block of W. Ave. F and capture it. The skunk was sent to the Texas Department of Health Laboratory in Austin for testing, and Animal Control was notified on Monday that the skunk was infected with rabies.

If anyone notices their pet or animal that had been in contact with a skunk or other wild animal in the area, they should notify the Copperas Cove Animal Control at 254-547-5584.
