Police arrest suspect in Bellmead shooting


Bellmead Police have arrested a 24-year-old man who is suspected of opening fire in a neighborhood Monday morning around 7:30 a.m. The shooting took place in the 3500 block of Bluebird St in Bellmead.

Edwin Caninburg is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, after he fought with officers who tried to arrest him.

There were 3 shots fired and one man in his 40s was hurt. He was taken to the hospital after he was shot once in the torso, but investigators say his injuries are not life threatening.

The woman who owns the house was in the same room as the victim, but was not hurt.

According to police, Caninburg got angry after knocked on the door of the victim's home and no one answered, even though he could hear people inside.  Caninburg then walked to the street and fired three .38 caliber pistol shots at the house.

Police say that Caninburg was seen leaving the scene in an older model white Jeep.

Caninburg was arrested Wednesday afternoon when an officer spotted him while driving by the Parkwood Apartments in the 100 block of Hogan Ln.
