Body found near Killeen apartment identified

KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) -

Killeen police have identified a body that was found in a wooded area inside the city. The body has been identified as 31-year-old Christopher Wayne Strickland.

A family member reported Strickland missing to the Belton Police Department on May 30. He had not been seen since May 24. Detectives were able to confirm his identity through identification on his person and fingerprints.

Detectives do not know the cause of death at this time. Police are waiting on more information from the medical examiner's office with the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Officers responded to a 911 call shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday that said a dead body was found. When officers got to 209 Root Ave., they found a deceased person who was in the advanced stages of decomposition.

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the person deceased at 2:42 p.m.
