Neglected Puppy Saved by Mart Animal Rescuer

Posted:
MART -

A Mart animal rescuer took in what a vet called, a toxic puppy. But it looks like there's hope for the dog, and still some questions that need to be answered.

It was earlier this week when Kirsten Wolf, and her husband, saw a puppy on the side of the road barely alive. After animal control picked up the dog from its alleged caretaker, they contacted Wolf.

"He came into the office and he said, 'You really don't want to see the dog', and I did want to see the dog," said Wolf.

What Wolf saw was disturbing. A puppy covered in thousands of fleas being eaten alive. And after a trip to the vet, they found out the dog had warms and Demodex Mange, which is a skin infection caused by mites.

Fortunately, animal control released the pup to Wolf instead of putting it down.

"I saw hope in her eyes and I said, 'I'll take her from here', and he surrendered her to me," Wolf said.

Wolf turned to Facebook and received an overwhelming amount of support and a few donations. They even named the pup, Mercy, since she has a second chance. Now, four days later mercy is more active and getting better each day through the help from people across the county. Even from a town that suffered a disaster of their own.

"I got contacted by a little girl named Crystal," Wolf said. "And she said, 'Look I'm from West, and I want to donate so text me in the morning and remind me.'"

But this situation may be an animal control issue, and Wolf would like to see more done.

"We need to have a facility, we don't even have a facility to take a dog to," said Wolf. "We need fosters in Mart that would step up cause some of them are puppies."

This case is being investigated by police to see if there will be animal cruelty charges.

If you would like to donate to help Mercy, you can contact Kirsten Wolf via Facebook: Kristen Wolf or you can contact the West Animal Clinic at 254-826-3890.
