Multi-million dollar project proposed for recent growth in Belton

A multi-million dollar project to improve the city of Belton has been proposed to the Belton city council. The project is expected to cost $6 million, and could raise taxes for residents.

After an in-depth study conducted by Belton's Capital Improvement Committee, they have presented a project that includes widening roads, adding sidewalks, fixing up parks, and expanding the police department. The police department alone would cost $3.5 million.

"If all of those projects are considered by the city council, and they moved forward with them that the tax impact would be about two cents on the tax rate. Which if a person owned a 100,000 dollar house, it would cost about 20 dollars per year," Belton Public Information Officer Paul Romer said.

The city already has a $2 million bond set aside for growth projects, and will have to discuss how to get the money for the other $4 million.
