Police find suspect accused of assaulting officer

Police have arrested a 38-year-old suspect accused of assaulting a deputy late Tuesday night. Jason Lancelin was arrested at 5 a.m. Thursday morning at a home in the 4000 block of San Jose in Bellmead.

Law enforcement officials say they received a call from a resident who had seen stories about Lancelin on TV. The resident believed the suspect was in their home.

When officers arrived on the scene, they were granted entry from the homeowner, and found Lancelin asleep on the couch. He was taken into custody without incident, and was transported to the McLennan County Jail.

Late Tuesday night law enforcement officers surrounded a home on Lincoln City Road near Elm Mott and set up a perimeter to find Lancelin and serve a warrant. Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said Lancelin pushed down a deputy, and attempted to take the deputy's taser gun.

Later that night, Lancelin was believed to be hiding in some nearby woods in his boxer shorts.

Lancelin has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest and assault of a public servant.
