Mart suspect involved in high speed chase turns himself in to authorities

Police say a suspect involved in a high speed chase Sunday night is now in custody. Mart Police Chief David Monthey has confirmed that Teddy Davenport has been detained by police.

Monthey says Davenport turned himself in to authorities Wednesday morning with help from a relative.

Davenport is now in McLennan County Jail. He faces four counts of evading arrest, two counts of aggravated assault on a public servant with a deadly weapon and two counts of failure to render aid, along with his previous warrants.

On Sunday night, Mart police pulled over the 45-year-old Davenport for a 2012 felony warrant just after 6 p.m.

Police say Davenport then fled the scene and led officers on a high speed chase. The chase went through county and gravel roads as Davenport eluded officers until being stopped off-road.

When officers got out of their car to arrest him, police say Davenport attempted to run them over and drove off again. Two officers at the scene were hurt and were sent to the hospital with severe injuries. They have since been released from the hospital.

Mart police asked for Temple police to assist them with the search for Davenport. Police intelligence lead them to believe Davenport was hiding in a field near Baker Boulevard in Temple. After a six hour search, Temple police determined that Davenport was not in that field.
