After more than half a year, the town of Buckholts has a new police chief.
Martin Jackson officially took over Friday as the chief of police. The city chose Jackson in mid march but he was not able to take over until May because of prior obligations.
Jackson takes over after the previous police chief was arrested for falsifying government documents. James Blackmon was arrested July, 2012 and the Buckholts city council decided to fire him a month later. Blackmon was originally suspended, but in a closed meeting the city decided to let him go.
Jackson has 30 years of experience in law enforcement in the Texas Department of Public Safety and California Highway Patrol. He says one of his most difficult experiences was working in Los Angeles during the 1992 L.A. riots.
In a city statement, Jackson says he wants to be proactive in their efforts in reaching out to community members and demonstrate the benefits of community policing.
