Baylor Baseball Faces UTSA in Home Finale Tuesday

Bears are 7-2 against team from Western Athletic Conference

WACO, Texas – After not playing since May 5 due to final exams, Baylor returns to action with its home finale Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CT against UTSA.  The meeting will be the second between the teams this season as the Roadrunners took a 5-3 decision in San Antonio on March 26.

Baylor Coming Off Long Break, Looking to Get Back on Track

It will have been nine days in between games for Baylor when the Bears take the field against UTSA.  They will be coming off getting swept of the first time ever in 16 series against Kansas -- on three one-run games.  The sweep marked the first against Baylor since Oklahoma did so Mary 12-13, 2012 in Norman and was the third sweep of BU since 2011.  The series loss to Kansas was just Baylor's fourth (1997, 2010, 2011) in 17 all-time series and second straight in Lawrence.  Under Smith, the Bears are 11-7 when coming off the long final exams break.

Baylor vs UT San Antonio Series History

Baylor is 29-6 in the all-time series against UTSA. The Bears are 21-3 against the Roadrunners in games played in Waco and 8-3 in games played in San Antonio. Baylor is 27-4 against UTSA during the Steve Smith era. BU fell 4-1 in San Antonio on April 24, 2012 in a loss that snapped Baylor's school- and Big 12-record 24-game winning streak. The Bears then bounced back to beat UTSA 14-3 in Waco on May 15, 2012.  But UTSA got the best of Baylor again this season on March 26 in a 5-3 win at Wolff Stadium, home of the San Diego Padres AA team the San Antonio Missions.  Three first-inning runs proved costly against BU starter Sterling Wynn.  Baylor overcame them with one in the fifth on two in the sixth but allowed two more runs in the bottom of the sixth that went unanswered.

Baylor vs Western Athletic Conference

Baylor is 214-79 against teams that are current members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Bears own a winning record over all five teams they have played from the WAC: UT Arlington (82-30), Texas State (48-19), Dallas Baptist (45-21), UT San Antonio (29-6) and Louisiana Tech (10-3). The Bears are 7-2 against the WAC this season with wins over Texas State, Louisiana Tech (2), Dallas Baptist (2) and UT Arlington (2), and losses to UTSA and Texas State.
