Danny Dunn to focus on infrastructure as Temple Mayor

Temple council member Danny Dunn will take over as mayor after defeating Lamar Collins Saturday.

According to the unofficial results Dunn received 1697 votes to Collins' 679. The Temple city council will canvas those results Tuesday and make it official.

Dunn says he wants to focus on three topics while mayor. Those include maintaining the current tax rate, growing the tax base and the infrastructure. Dunn says the I-35 expansion project is also a major part of the town. He says when that is finished in three to five years, the city will be a better place.

Dunn also says he wants to keep the city true to its roots.

"I want temple to be the same kind of experience for everybody that lives in Temple, Texas as it has been for me my entire life. It's a good place to live. It's a good place to raise a family. And I hope whenever my tenure as mayor is over, people can say that of Temple Texas," Dunn said.

Collins did come over and shake hands with Dunn wishing the mayor elect "good luck."

Dunn says it really hasn't settled in yet, and he's just humbled by the entire experience.
