Baylor Women’s Golf Places Ninth at NCAA West Regional

STANFORD, Calif. – The Baylor women's golf team's season ended after finishing in ninth place at the NCAA West Regional. The Lady Bears came up one stroke shy of advancing to the NCAA Championship after shooting 20-over-par 304 in Saturday's championship round at the Stanford Golf Course.

The top eight teams in the tournament advanced to the NCAA Championship in Athens, and Baylor (+38; 295-291-304=890) finished just one shot behind Arizona (+37; 300-298-291=889), Oregon (+37; 292-297-300=889) and San Jose State (+37; 301-304-284=889), which all advanced after finishing tied for sixth place.

"Obviously I am really disappointed right now, but if you put the whole year together, and to play as well as we did this year and be ranked inside the top 20 and miss making the national championship by one stroke with three freshman and two sophomores on the team is great," head coach Jay Goble said. "For as young of a team as we have, they really kicked butt this year."

Top seed Southern California (+7; 290-289-280=859) overcame a first and second round deficit to claim the top spot. Purdue (+8; 291-286-280=860) finished in second place, Vanderbilt (+17; 289-289-291=869) finished in third, South Carolina (+22; 296-285-293=874) came in fourth and Stanford (+23; 301-284-290=875) took fifth.

Sophomore Hayley Davis (+9; 73-72-77=222) and freshman Lauren Taylor (+9; 73-72-77=222) each shot a final round 6-over-par 77 to finish with a share of 33rd place. Davis and Taylor both brought home individual titles this season, with Davis earning a victory at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate and Taylor taking home medalist honors at the Big 12 Championship.

"Everyone is returning next year and we have two more players coming in," Goble said. "I feel very confident about how we are going to play in the future."

Freshman Laura Lonardi (+10; 71-73-79=223) finished tied for 39th place. Emma Carberry (+11; 78-74-72=224) improved two strokes from Friday's round and finished tied for 50th place, while Natalia Perez (+22; 81-76-78=235) finished tied for 99th place.
