Texas A&M Tied for 10th at NCAA West Regional

Grunden leads Aggies in Tie for 22nd Place

STANFORD, Calif. – Texas A&M senior Susy Grunden opened with a 2-over-par 73 on Thursday to the lead the 27th-ranked Aggies into a tie for 10th place after the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course.

Grunden's score was her third best round of the season to-date placing her in a tie for 22nd place. The Krum, Texas native recorded a chip-in eagle on the par-5 12th hole to go along with her team-leading 13 pars on the day.

"I cannot say enough about Susy's clutch play down the stretch today," head coach Trelle McCombs said. "She really went out and played well for us today, leading us on a day that we regularly had to make five-footers to save par. I did not see the eagle, but she let me know afterwards that it was a chip in from the rough."

The Aggies recorded a 16-over par 300 to claim a tie for tenth place following the first 18 holes of the three-day tournament. No. 7 Vanderbilt (289) leads the regional at five-over followed by No. 1 Southern California (290) at six-over par. Rounding out the top-ten were No. 12 Purdue (291), No. 40 Oregon (292), No. 19 Baylor (295), No. 18 Georgia (296), No. 36 South Carolina (296), No. 48 California (297), No. 32 Denver (299), A&M and No. 6 Arizona (300).

No. 39 LSU (301), San Jose State (301) No. 14 Stanford (301) and No. 37 Ohio State finished day one tied for 12th followed by Kent State (302), No. 25 Pepperdine (303), Miami (307), Northern Arizona (307), Harvard (309) and North Dakota State (309) rounding out the top-20. No.43 UNLV (310), No. 49 Florida State (310) and Long Island (322) completed the field.

"We finished the day on hole 18 very strong with five pars from difficult positions," McCombs added. "I am encouraged by that finish going forward into tomorrow's round. I think we have an opportunity to put up a very good number and move up the board putting ourselves in contention."

Following Grunden for the Aggies were the duo of Katerina Ruzickova and Chelsea Mocio in a tie for 46th at four-over par. Senior Sarah Beth Davis finished with a six-over par 77 in a tie for 69th. Junior Natalie Reeves rounded out the A&M lineup in a tie for 89th place following her eight-over par 79.

The Aggies will return to the course at 1:50 p.m. (CT) on the back nine, joined with Baylor and Pepperdine for the second day of play. Live scoring of the event can be found at GolfStat.com.
