Man found dead in Harker Heights standoff identified

The man who held police to a seven hour standoff before being found dead on Tuesday has been identified. Police have identified the 26-year-old man as Micah Brumell.

The incident occurred in the Ancient Oak Mobile Home Park located in the 2300 block of Indian Trail. According to a news release from Harker Heights police, the Brumell holed-up inside the home shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday. A few neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution during the standoff.

A negotiator with the Harker Heights Police Department tried unsuccessfully to talk the man out of the home. Special response officers went inside the home around 5:40 p.m. and found Brumell with a fatal gunshot wound.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cook pronounced him dead at 6:20 p.m.
