HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A Texas death row inmate within hours of his scheduled execution has filed his own motion with the U.S. Supreme Court to try to stop his punishment.
Attorneys for 35-year-old Carroll Joe Parr said they were not involved in his legal actions. The Texas Attorney General's office is contesting the appeal.
Parr is appealing a state court ruling he lost earlier Tuesday. He contends he had poor legal help at his trial and his case deserves another look.
He is set to die for the shooting death of a fellow drug dealer in Waco during a robbery 10 years ago.
