Former vice president bank in Whitney sentenced to 7 years in prison

WHITNEY, TX (KXXV) -

A former vice president of a Whitney bank was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for embezzling $6 million. Mary Helen "Murty" Lane pled guilty in federal court in early March.

Lane is not only sentenced to seven years in prison, but her time will be followed by five years of supervised release. She received no fine, but she does have to pay $6,090,784.31 in restitution.

She admitted she took money from the First National Bank of Whitney over a ten year period. Lane apparently used the stolen money to fund her gambling.

Investigators found out that Lane took gambling trips to several casinos including one in Las Vegas.
