Softball places ten on All-West Division Teams
Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed nine players on the American Southwest Conference All-West Division teams released today. The Cru had two First Team selections, placed five players on the All-West Second Team and added two Honorable Mention All-West picks.
Outfielder Kourtney Bevers was named West Division Co-Freshman of the Year and joined pitcher Rebekah Ragsdale on the All-West Division First Team. Bevers, a Liberty Hill, Texas (Liberty Hill H.S.) native, batted .331 with 41 hits and 23 RBI. She also scored 25 runs and hit seven doubles. Ragsdale, a junior from Orange, Texas (West Orange Stark H.S.), posted a 16-6 record and recorded a .193 ERA. Ragsdale struck out 105 batters, tossed 14 complete games and limited opponents to a .234 batting average in a conference-high 148.2 innings in the circle.
Third baseman Victoria Gomez, catcher Chandler Henson, outfielders Janie Neyland and Leanne Hinojosa and utility player/pitcher Halle Sabo were voted to the All-West Division Second Team. Gomez, a junior from Pflugerville High School, led the Cru in batting average (.392), hits (51), RBI (32), doubles (13), home runs (5) and total bases (79). Henson, a junior Van Alstyne, Texas, native, led the Cru with 189 putouts this season. She batted .304 with 11 runs, 24 hits and 13 RBI. Neyland, a Franklin, Texas native, batted .283 with 28 hits, including a home run, and scored 19 runs in her sophomore season. Hinojosa, a sophomore from Edinburg, Texas, posted a .299 batting average with 40 hits and 12 RBI. She also scored 25 runs and recorded 27 putouts in right field. Sabo, a Baytown, Texas native and freshman from First Baptist, was selected as a utility player and pitcher to the Second Team. She batted .233 with 24 hits and 12 RBI, while also recorded a 7-6 record in the circle. Sabo strikeout 27 batters and limited opponents to a .225 batting average in 75.1 innings pitched.
Second baseman Kelsey Vann and third baseman Caitlin Bollier were All-West Division Honorable Mention selections. Vann, a sophomore from Moody, Texas batted .311 with 41 hits and 16 RBI. She led the team with 13 stolen bases and 27 runs scored. Bollier, a senior from Kerrville, Texas (Tivy H.S.), batted .294 with 37 hits, including 10 doubles and four home runs.
Bollier is a four-time All-West Division selection while Henson earned her third honor. This is the second All-West Division honor for Hinojosa, Neyland and Ragsdale. The other UMHB players are receiving All-West Division honors for the first time in their careers. The ASC does not select an All-Conference Team, so the honors end at the All-Division level.
