West Zone 3 residents could see homes Saturday

WEST, TX (KXXV) -

There are still hundreds of West residents waiting to see their homes, but they may get their chance soon.

The city of West says they were working on the process of getting people back in their homes sometime soon, but Zone 3 residents say they plan to get a glimpse Saturday morning. That's the region closest to the explosion that has been closed off since last Wednesday night.

Some of those residents say they've been told they will be escorted to their home starting tomorrow morning at 7. Residents have been applying for permits at the West Public Library since Thursday to be a part of that process. In that application process, many residents were given a permit sign to put on their car, a map of where to go and an estimate of the damage to their home.

The city has also posted estimates of the damage to homes. Residents can see if their home is either completely unsafe, partially unsafe or safe. There are only three of the 157 homes listed as safe.

A volunteer says only those with homes listed as safe can go inside when they visit. Those with the partial designation can go inside but only with an escort. But if your home is listed as completely unsafe then you may not be able to go inside.

Shoes of San Antonio will be set up across from the Community Center on Saturday April 27, 2013 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm to fit and give away 5000 pairs of adult men' and women' shoe and accessories.
