One dead after car crashes into building and erupts into flames

One person is dead after a car crashed into an office building and erupted into flames early Friday morning. The incident occurred at 2:47 a.m. in the 2200 block of E. Highway 190.

Fire officials say when firefighters arrived they found flames at the front of a two story office building and inside one of the units. Authorities also say a car was found laying on its side against the front of the building engulfed in flames.

Fire crews extinguished the fire around the car and at the front of the building. Once the flames were extinguished, a person was found dead inside the vehicle.

The Copperas Cove Fire Marshal and Copperas Cove Police Department are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Authorities say at least three companies conduct business in the six office suites. The entire building is currently closed pending appropriate repairs, and there is no loss estimate available at this time.

Three fire engines, two ambulances, and one command unit responded to the scene, and no fire department personnel were injured.
