Local woman supports her fallen family friend Buck Uptmore

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

Hundreds of people lined up as early as 7 a.m. in front of the Ferrell Center, and in front of the line was a West native showing support for one of the fallen heroes.

Christine Banks' family has deep ties with the community, and are long time friends of the Uptmores. Buck Uptmore was one of the first responders who was killed by the West fertilizer plant explosion.

"We were one big community, white, black, young, old, rich, or poor," said Banks.

The Uptmores are a staple in the community, with a family car dealership right off of I-35.

"They knew my grandmother, and my mother and father," explains Banks. "And when I needed a car, I was a young single parent and had little money, and he let me put it on layaway."

The news of Buck Uptmore's death devasted Banks, and she felt the least she could do was support the memorial honoring him and other fallen West explosion heroes.
