Baylor Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at Big 12 Championship

Mansson ties for seventh in individual standings

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Baylor Men's golf team finished in sixth place at the Big 12 Conference Championship after shooting a final round 306 on Wednesday at Prairie Dunes Country Club.

Play was suspended on Monday due to darkness, and after Tuesday's round was cancelled, Baylor (+55, 895) completed the final four holes of its second round and finished at 12-over-par 292. After a brief break, Baylor played the third and final round at 26-over 306 to finish with a 54-hole total of 55-over-par 895.  The Bears finished just four strokes out of the top five behind Kansas State (+51, 891).

"As far as playing conditions, they were as about as good as you can get," head coach Greg Priest said. "It's really disappointing because we just came out really flat today and never really got anything going. The one positive is the guys finished well. It could have been really bad, but we made a couple of birdies coming down, and we were able to pass a couple of schools."

 Baylor finished behind Texas (+19, 859), Oklahoma State (+23, 863), Oklahoma (+29, 869), TCU (+31, 871) and Kansas State (+51, 891). Texas' Brandon Stone (E, 210) won medalist honors, followed by Oklahoma State's Talor Gooch (+3, 213).

Niclas Mansson (+7, 217) finished tied for seventh individually after finishing his second round at 2-over-par 72 and shooting 75 in the third round. He was one stroke back of two players tied for fifth place and two strokes back of the top three.

"Niclas just really couldn't find it on the front side," Priest said. "He was 9-over at the turn, and then he made four straight birdies. That was really encouraging for him, and he moved into the top 10, so that was a really good finish for him."

Sophomore Kyle Jones (+15, 225) finished tied for 25th place, followed by senior Ryan O'Rear (+19, 229), who finished tied for 33rd place. Filippo Zucchetti (+20, 230) tied for 36th, and Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen (+21, 231) placed 39th.

The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship selection show is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on May 6. The Bears are looking for their 15th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.
