Felony suspect leads police on foot chase, barricades himself in home

Posted:
COPPERAS COVE -

A wanted felony suspect has been arrested after leading Copperas Cove police on a foot chase Tuesday morning. The foot pursuit began at 10:55 a.m. in the 200 Block of Northern Dove Lane.

The suspect, Raheem Amaud Townsend, ran into a densely wooded area where he hid himself from police. Members of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice K-9 Team helped search for Townsend and were able to find a trail he left behind.

Police and Townsend engaged in a second foot pursuit later, and the suspect eventually fled into a home in the 40 block of Cactus Drive, where two adults and three children lived in.

Negotiators were called to the scene, and were able safely retrieve the five people inside the home. The Copperas Cove SWAT Team then made entry into the home where they were able to apprehend Townsend.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.

Townsend has a warrant for an aggravated robbery charge, and has also been charged with evading arrest for the incident. He will transported to Coryell County Jail.

The incident is under investigation by the Copperas Cove Police Department.
