Baylor University surpasses scholarship initiative goal

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

Baylor's ambitious scholarship initiative of $100 million has been met and surpassed.

University President Ken Starr set the goal shortly after taking office in 2010, and in less than three years, $101.4 million were raised.

"Right now is a time to say, ‘Thank you, Baylor Nation,'" Starr said. "The goal was $100 million and to do that by the end of this calendar year. My dear friends, here it is, still April, and we've raised $101.4 million."

More than 11,000 scholarship donors helped make it possible. 86 percent of the people donating gave $1,000 or less.

The money helps to address the increasing costs of higher education. More than 80 percent of Baylor students receive some sort of financial assistance.
