Former reserve deputy accused of shooting wife

A former reserve deputy has been arrested for shooting his wife on Saturday. 48-year-old James David Evans has been booked into the Bell County Jail for the incident.

Belton police say they responded to the Chapel Oaks Apartments in the 200 block of Lake Road on Saturday in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim, Vicki Evans, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

She told officers that her husband had forced his way into the apartment and had shot her.

Police arrested Evans a short time later, and charged him with burglary habitation with intention of other felony. Court papers indicated Evans had admitted to firing the shot.

Evans is also the director of Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.
